Managing Director
Nick has had a long career in construction management spanning 36 years.
Starting out in the industry as a Quantity Surveyor and progressing onto Project Management Nick has been involved in projects throughout the UK including many of Hull’s landmarks including the Womens & Childrens Hospital, the Humberside Police Headquarters as well as hotels, apartment blocks and hundreds of new build houses.
Nicks experience led to being appointed to the position of regional president and board member at the Federation of Master Builders, the UK’s largest trade association and as well as being an active member of the organisations Home Builders Group, Nick represented the organisation at government level, attending weekly high level advisory meetings at the House of Commons, Home Office, the House of Lords, DCLG and BEIS.
During this period Nick was active in lobbying government for a review of retentions and was a panel member for the formation of the latest bricklaying and plastering apprenticeship standards.
In addition to being an active member of various government steering groups Nick was an advisory panel member for the Farmer Review, a Government and CLC led report investigating the labour model in the UK construction industry with a view to developing an action plan to address the skills pressures and other constraints that limit housebuilding and development in the UK. The end result of this was the now widely recognised publication named ‘Modernise or Die’ in which Nick is named as a key advisor alongside CEO’s of some of the UK’s largest construction and housebuilding companies.
Nick was also a trailblazer in lobbying government in the issues surrounding the recovery of small debts owed to subcontractors by major contractors and working closely with BEIS and the RICS, a small value adjudication working group was formed which led to the formation of a low-cost small value adjudication procedure which has now become legislation.
Continuing the involvement in shaping the UK’s construction industry, Nick now sits on the management committee of the Confederation of Construction Specialists which is a UK-wide membership organisation with a mission to improve the contractual awareness of its members and the wider specialist construction community.
Progressing the craft of Project Management, Nick achieved a Bachelors Degree and is a member of the Association of Project Management.
Nick’s vast experience and passion for the industry and following many years of project managing/building homes for some of the countries largest housebuilders, led to Hammond Homes being established and Nick now heads the family business.
In what little spare time Nick has these days, his interests include weight training, a love of Italian food and restaurants and as well as spending most weekends with his grandchildren, Nick is a very active Freemason.
